GRADUATES: HOW TO APPLY

Discovering who you are

We want to get to know the real you. So, when you apply for a place on our graduate programme, the important thing is: be yourself. Tell us what you are passionate about. Help us understand what motivates you as a person.

We want you to have a positive experience during the application process – one where you can discover how far you could go and how you can make a difference to the world. And an experience where you can discover something new about yourself too.

How to apply

We use a strengths-based assessment process, so your talents, motivations and passions are just as important as your academic achievements, all of which we’ll explore throughout the assessment process. To apply, you should have a minimum of a 2:2 in any subject, from any university – or be on track for one.

There are 3 stages to our application process:

Stage 1

Send your application, take our online tests

Once you’ve sent us an application with all your basic details, we’ll ask you to complete the Lloyds Banking Group Strengths and Cultural assessment. This examines whether you have the strengths and behaviours we’re looking for. To prepare for this, think about the things you enjoy doing, the things you do well, and how they’ll be beneficial to the role you’re applying for.

Alongside the Lloyds Banking Group Strengths and Cultural assessment, we’ll ask you to complete the numerical and critical reasoning tests.  You can practice for the tests at jobmi.com (just register your details and head for the Practice Assessments section). And you can get to know more about us by looking at our corporate website.  Altogether, the application and online tests should take around 90 minutes.

We’ll give you a feedback report within a few weeks of completing the first stage. We’ll be in touch with the outcome and if you’ve been successful on progressing to the next stage.

Stage 2

Complete a video interview

Here, we want to find out what motivates you and whether you’ve got the strengths we’re looking for. Again, you can prepare by thinking about what you enjoy doing and how you think your passion and skills will help you in your role.

You’ll film yourself responding to certain questions and prompts, then share the video with us. You can do the video interview at whatever time suits you – just choose a quiet place, and remember to switch off your mobile phone.

Once you’ve shared your video with us, we’ll take a look. Then we’ll let you know whether we’d like to see you at the final stage assessment centre.

Stage 3

Visit our Assessment Centre

We’ll send you more information nearer the time, but broadly speaking this day is about seeing your strengths, motivations and passions come to life. You’ll also have the opportunity to discover more about us and our programmes too.

You’ll take part in group activities, a variety of assessments, and a one-to-one interview. You’ll also take part in a Virtual Reality exercise where you’ll complete a task within an immersive environment. If you’re applying to an analytical programme – like Finance or Commercial Banking – you’ll also be asked to complete a numerical reasoning test.

We’ll give you a full feedback report shortly after your day at the Assessment Centre. This will explain what we think your strengths are and how you might think about developing them. If you’re successful and we make an offer to you for our Graduate Leadership Programme, we will be in touch. We’ll aim to get a written employment contract to you within four weeks.

BEFORE YOU APPLY

We want your application to be a really positive experience – one where you can do yourself proud and discover what you’re capable of.

Here are our top three tips to give you the best chance of success:

1. Think about why you’re interested in our world

We want to know how you feel about our industry. So, think about our competitors and why you’ve chosen us over them. What do you like about our business?

Also, think about the particular programme you’ve decided to apply for. Why have you chosen it? How does it match your interests and passions?

And since our purpose is to help Britain prosper, we’d love to hear examples of how you fit in. Whether it’s your experience of volunteering, or your ambitions to get involved in our charity work, how can you help us achieve our purpose – all while achieving yours?

2. Think about your strengths

Often, interviewers ask about what you can do. This is great, but we’re more interested in what you like to do – and what you might do in future. So, ask yourself:

  • How would your friends and family describe you?
  • What do you truly enjoy doing and why, and what are you like when you’re at your best?
  • What achievements are you most proud of, and how did you get there?
  • What activities, inside and outside work, don’t you enjoy? Why not?

Also, think about how you’d like your career to progress. What do you want to learn and achieve? Where do you see yourself in the long run?

Strengths-based interviews will feel different from traditional competency based assessments you may be used to. We’d like to learn about what you’re naturally good at, so be prepared to openly express your opinions about an activity, in various exercises – either on your own, or in a group on our assessment days.
