Marissa believes finance can be a force for good and wanted a role where she could help make that a reality. With an interest in sustainability as well as diversity, equity and inclusion, she has found a place with purpose at Lloyds Banking Group.

She’s now a Sustainable Financial Wellbeing Graduate.

Making a difference

“The Group’s purpose of Helping Britain Prosper is the reason I applied. For me, sustainability goes beyond environmental impact. It includes things like financial resilience and social development too. I like that Lloyds Banking Group shares the same vision.”

Exploring your interests

“I have a master’s degree in International Relations and another in Environment and Sustainable Development. On the Sustainable Financial Wellbeing graduate scheme, I’ve been able to pursue my interests while developing my technical skills and contributing to the Group’s overall purpose.”

Digging even deeper

“I've enjoyed learning about responsible investments. I’ve been able to see what our Asset Owners do to engage with companies about stewardship priorities. I’ve also completed human rights research on companies we’re investing in and work with them to highlight practices that can be improved.”

Pursuing all passions

“The breadth of opportunities on offer is impressive. Not just within your role, but beyond it too. I’m on the steering committee for the East and Southeast Asian Network. I am also the co-lead for a Culture Café that aims to nurture and develop the differing needs of all Black, Asian and ethnic minority colleagues.”

Supported to stretch yourself

“People at all levels are so invested in your learning. Everyone will give you their time to explain about their business area. I’ve also been pleasantly surprised by the trust senior leaders have in graduates. One invited me to represent Scottish Widows with them when their delegates flew to Edinburgh.”

Feeling your impact

“I feel I’m contributing to a better world through my work. On my placement in the Protection Platform team, for example, I got to work on our partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support. It’s not something I expected to do as a graduate. It’s so rewarding to see how you’re positively impacting people.”
